Baptisms

At the present time we are unable to take any bookings for Baptisms (Christenings). This is because our Vicar, Revd Mark Adams, is leaving at the end of April and we need to put a new process in place for handling your enquiry. We appreciate that this is an inconvenience and will available to take enquiries again as soon as we can.

…for visiting our website. We’re delighted that you want to explore your child being christened at St Margaret’s.

During the christening your child will be baptized. It’s the first step of an amazing journey with God, parents, godparents, friends, family and the church. You don’t have to have been christened yourself, and you don’t have to have been a regular churchgoer.

Remember, your child is precious to you and precious to God. You want the very best for them, and so does God. You want them to make right choices in life, for themselves and for others.

A baptism is …

… just the beginning of this and so much more.

Over the years to come, it’s a journey you’ll share together with your child by:

  • Being there for your child to talk to about the bigger questions of life – questions about hope, faith and love.
  • Praying for your child through the ups and downs of their faith journey.
  • Showing them practically how to make those good choices in life.
  • Helping them to learn more about their Christian faith, through their church and in other ways.

We ask you to do two things …

  • Come to our 11am Sunday service at least once. When your child is baptised they join the family of the church across the world and here at St Margaret’s so we would like you to join one of our regular times together. We also hope that you will like it enough to want to come back!
  • Come to a baptism preparation evening. This will be an informal time when you can think through what christening is about, look at some of the options that are available and talk through what will happen in the service. Your child is very welcome to join us if that makes it easier for you.

Once you have done these two things we will be happy to discuss at date for your child’s baptism.
